'Aleksandrinskii Service Dessert Plate'
with green Nicholas II Cypher 1899

 

On offer here then is fine hand painted porcelain dessert plate from the Aleksandrinskii Turquoise Service, Imperial Porcelain Manufactory, St. Petersburg, 1899 

The cavetto is finely hand painted with a floral garland interlaced with blue ribbons and centred with a hovering figure of a putto amid clouds and holding aloft a swag of colourful flowers. The scalloped border in Sevres style Celeste Bleu, is richly gilded and etched
with wreaths of flowers, tied ribbons and scrolls.

One of only two services completed at the Imperial Porcelain Factory during the reign of Nicholas II, the Aleksandrinskii Turquoise Service named after Empress Alexandra was intended for the Winter palace. Decorated in neo-Rococo style it demonstrates the strong influence of Sèvres and Meissen porcelain.
